New & Upcoming Releases

Let’s see.. we’ve covered sports, movies and food so far. What’s missing? Oh, that’s right – MUSIC!

Hey everyone! My name is Jess and every Thursday I’m going to keep you updated with what's going on in the music world.

We had a lot of exiting CD releases this week including Kings of LeonOnly By the Night, which is currently the #3 bestseller on Amazon.com, Pussycat DollsDoll Domination, Everlast (remember him?) – Love, War and the Ghost of Whitney Ford and my personal favorite, Plain White T’sBig Bad World. The song I currently can’t stop listening to off of their new album is “1,2,3,4." It’s a cute song that is reminiscent of “Hey There Delilah.” Go enjoy it at Plain White T’s MySpace page before the radio ruins it by playing it 50 times a day.

Next week promises some big CD releases too. Ben Folds is releasing Way To Normal, a highly anticipated CD after his last album, Supersunnyspeedgraphic, was released in 2006. Jack’s Mannequin unleashes their second album, The Glass Passenger. This album received 3 1/2 out of five stars from a review in Rolling Stone and the following commentary:

"On the day Jack's Mannequin finished mastering their 2005 debut, Everything in Transit, frontman Andrew McMahon was diagnosed with leukemia. Already known for his intimate lyrics — Transit aired the details of his breakup with a long-term girlfriend — he addresses his illness head-on. The Glass Passenger is a candid portrait of survival that reunites McMahon with the piano rock of his old band Something Corporate. Album highlight "Caves" begins with a quiet reflection — just falsetto vocals against a piano melody — before the singer erupts over a fury of guitars..."

For you hip hop fans out there, T-Pain will release his third album Thr33 Ringz and T.I. is releasing is releasing his 10th album, Paper Trail. So be sure to be on the look out for these!

Speaking of hip hop, in an interview with Rolling Stone, 50 Cent discussed his upcoming album and film, both entitled Before I Self Destruct. The film is actually based on the music from the album! He says that while most films about "certain lifestyles" fail to portray the consequences, he "showed characters under pressure in scenarios where they felt like there were no other options, even though there were" adding, "There are always options. People just usually start to see them while being incarcerated - for not seeing them in the first place.”

The album and the film are due out December 9th.

Perhaps in response to this release date, Kanye West is pushing up the release of his new album from December to November. According to Kanye’s blog:

"I CHANGED MY ALBUM (release) TO NOVEMBER SOMETHING CAUSE I FINISHED THE ALBUM AND I FELT LIKE IT.. I WANT YALL TO HEAR IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE."

And finally, Jason Mraz has released his second single off of his album, We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things. The CD has some great singles with the potential to be big. The video for the current single, "Make It Mine" is here:

As this entry comes to an end, I just want to say that I will listen to pretty much anything. So if you guys, our loyal readers, want to leave a comment and suggest some music I, or anyone else reading this, should check out, I would love to hear from you!
